 Ships in harbour

Great days out, easily within reach

If you want to sample Portsmouth's delights, The Royal Maritime Club puts you right in the heart of the action. As the closest hotel to Portsmouth Historical Dockyard, there's plenty to do on your doorstep.

And since we're within walking distance of train stations and ferry ports, it's really easy to get further afield and explore Hampshire. Stay with us for a holiday you'll never forget.

Got an interest in the navy?

Portsmouth is the place to come. A vital seaport throughout the centuries, the historical dockyard is waiting for you. Visit HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, or the world's first iron-clad warship, HMS Warrior. Henry VIII's favourite warship, Mary Rose, now has a brand new museum, just a short walk from the club. And just across the harbour, accessible by ferry, is The Royal Naval Submarine Museum.

Heritage of Portsmouth

Steeped in naval history, old Portsmouth's cobbled streets, ancient buildings and wonderful harbour views are close by. Why not soak up the atmosphere on the way to the City Museum and Art Gallery? For those interested in literature, Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum is an essential stop.

Southsea Promenade

Not far from the hotel is Southsea Promenade. This is a fantastic place to take the kids for a day, as they're sure to love the Sea-Life Centre. You can also learn more about our history in the D-Day Museum, or simply relax in the beautiful award-winning gardens.

Head further afield

If you've come to Portsmouth from far away, you might want to take advantage of the opportunity to explore Hampshire at large. The Club is close to Portsmouth Harbour Station, enabling you to get out for a day even if you don't have access to a car. Marwell Zoo is a must for all the family, and Arundel Castle and Winchester are great places to explore. A day in the New Forest will always be fondly remembered, too.
